‘Dermatosurgery’ is the surgical procedure required to treat the skin and skin appendages. On the one hand dermatosurgery incorporates classic and traditional surgical procedures (i.e. excisions with a scalpel and suture), but on the other hand it can involve modern therapeutically procedures, like laser surgery.
The most common dermatosurgical procedures are: - Surgical removal of benign and or malignant skin changes (i.e. removal of noticeable moles)
- Extension of diagnostically clarifications of unclear skin diseases using skin samples (biopsy)
- Aesthetic procedures for removal of benign skin changes and skin spots (i.e. bothersome moles, fibroma, old age warts, aging spots, lipoma, xanthelasma, etc)
- Removal of preparatory glands (curettage) in case of excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis)
- Correction of scars
- Blepharoplasty: correction of hanging upper and/or lower eyelids
- Ambulant Vein Surgery: endoluminal radio frequency therapy (ClosureFAST®), sclerotheapy, miniphlebectomy
How does a dermatosurgical procedure work?
Before every surgical procedure a comprehensive examination of the skin problem area is performed. Afterwards, we will inform you in detail about the clinical diagnosis or different diagnostic considerations. We will also inform you in detail of the procedure before each operative surgery and about appropriate behaviour measures. The following points will be discussed: - Type of local anaesthetic
- Pre and post operative behaviour (i.e. UV-protection, taking of medication)
- Type of procedure (conventional surgery, laser surgery)
- Results expectations
- Risks during surgery and side effects
- Length of procedure
- Control examinations
