Education and work experience

Dr. Bernadette Vago began her medical studies at the Vienna University in the autumn of 1993. During her studies, she worked continually as a medical assistant in the medical-diagnostic laboratory for MedR. Dr. Manfred Boehm.

During 1999 and 2000 she spent several months working for the breast cancer research team at the “James Graham Brown Cancer Center“, Louisville University, Kentucky, USA,  under the management of Professor Dr James L Wittliff. In May 2002, to recognise her efforts, she was presented with the ‘Grafton Chase’ Education Award from the Clinical Ligand Assay Society in Houston, Texas.

She began her specialist training in April 2001 as an assistant at the University Clinic for Dermatology within the department for Immundermatology and Infectious Skin Diseases. Here, she comprehensively studied HIV-therapy. Following this, she worked as an intern at the Kaiser Franz Josef Hospital in the 2nd Medical Department for Rheumatology and Osteology, and then she continued her training within the surgical department at the University Skin Clinic in Heidelberg. There, she initially worked in the field of Dermato-Oncology caring for melanoma patients. Afterwards, she focused on Diagnostics (Ultrasound) and Therapy (with Ambulant Vein Surgery, including End Luminal Laser, Radiofrequency Therapy, Foam Sclerotherapy and Miniphlebectomy) of venous malfunctions. At this time, she took part in the world’s first clinical study of Radio Frequency Catheter ’Closure FAST®’, for the ambulant, gentle and pain free treatment of varicose veins.

Besides Vein Surgery she has also studied the practice of general Dermatosurgery. Within the field of aesthetic medicine she has experience working with various laser and IPL systems, and injection based products, used for wrinkle therapy (inc. Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Hyaluronacid).

In June 2007, she successfully passed her specialist doctor examination and moved back to Vienna in the autumn of 2007, to open her own surgery.

Besides her day to day responsibilities at her surgery in Vienna, she is also a leading school doctor and a representative for ’ClosureFAST®’ vein therapy, invasive and non-invasive Elos-Technology and laser therapy in Austria, Germany, Hungary and Bulgaria.
